A 3-footed shallow oven with wrought iron bail handle and
swivel ring for hearth hanging. Signed No. 2 Dighton Furnace Co. from
Massachusetts, circa 1870. All original and complete measuring 13" outside
diameter x 6" high overall to top of oven with the bail rising another 4" above
that and the swivel ring another 2" more above the handle. The oven itself
has a body about 4" deep with the lid fitting down onto the inside rim about 1"
from the top. Shallow ovens were slightly different from the Dutch oven as
the lids fitted down inside the rim of the oven as opposed to sitting on top of
the rim. The feet are in very good condition about 1 1/2" high. A
nice signed American piece in excellent condition usable for hearth cooking.

Very early wrought iron fire dogs
from the mid 1700's, with very early acorn shaped knobs on gooseneck tops.
The uprights were formed with irregular pattern edges, possibly Pennsylvania in
origin. There are very evident striations in the iron from impurities which is
found in very early iron. These fire dogs measure 12 3/4" tall
overall with the log bars extending approximately 12". The arched feet have a
spread of approximately 11" with a 4" high arch. The front uprights measure 1
5/8" at widest points and are fairly thick at 1/2". Heavy and sturdy -
nicely worked early iron.
