A large pair of Colonial wrought iron fire dogs, from the late 1700's, with early gooseneck tops with diamond angled knobs - the front upright is angled wide at the top and spread 2 1/4" at widest. Log bars are peened onto uprights shown in close-up center row right below. These fire dogs measure 15" tall overall with the log bar extending 18". The back of the bars were replaced at one time in an excellent early manner and the pair have been used heavily after that so they are quite aged. The arched feet have a spread of 11" with a 3" high arch. Portions of the penny feet have been burned off (shown in photos bottom row below) as expected from heavy use. An excellent early pair of well formed fire dogs.

A pair of matching cast iron and brass Victorian era fireplace tools rests, circa 1890. Overall measurements are 6" high x 8" wide x 3" deep. These rests have a decorative cast iron base measuring 8" x 3" x 2 3/8" high while the brass upright rests are 6" wide x 3 3/4" high. The tools (poker, shovel, tongs) were rested at an angle against the rests which sat on the hearth to the side of the fireplace. Restored and in excellent condition.

Very unusual pair of wrought
iron 18th Century ember tongs, with extremely rare scissor handles. The scissor
handles are intriguing and rarely seen today. Measuring 24" overall,
the scissor handles are 4" high x 4 1/2" across. These tongs
were made to use one handed with a small spread for embers and although
they have an open spread of up to 13 1/2", they were not made to be used that
wide as it is difficult to make a spread of more than several inches with
scissor handles and one hand. These tongs were used for a very long
time and show much age and weathering (pitting) but the pads are still in good
shape and not burned out, the hinge is good, and the tongs are very operational.
