Large cast iron downspout hopper head from the mid 19th century.  These boxes were also called conductor heads, collector heads, gutter boxes, and scupper boxes to name just a few.  This type of conductor, open at the top, was for collecting storm  water via the gutters and funneling it into the downspouts.  For hundreds of years these boxes were quite decorative and beautiful - an outstanding piece of functional exterior architecture.  This conductor box measures 19" across x 9 1/4" high x 9" deep and weighs about 60 pounds.  The bulbous extension from the bottom of the box into the pipe is 8".  This item has not been restored and is in old blue paint.  Due to the extreme weight of this item, additional shipping may be necessary based on the delivery location.
