Complete mortise double keyed entry or "front door" lock with decorative cast bronze trim, patented by Prouty with a very unusual configuration. The bronze trim is marked with a 1879 patent, the lock is marked with an 1882 patent date. The door knobs are stationary and do not turn. The latch is worked by grabbing the knob and pressing in the button in the center which works the lever extending from the knob directly into the latch. Exterior escutcheon plate measures 10" x 2 3/4" - interior trim includes knob with rosette and key escutcheon. Knobs are 2 1/4" in diameter. The exterior knob, mounted on a rectangular rosette, mounts onto the escutcheon plate with bolts through the door from the back (included). Mortise lock is reversible, restored, and complete with plain bronze face and strike - ready for installation. Both top and bottom key are provided. Top key way retracts the latch when the outside door knob is locked via the toggle on the face of the lock. The bottom key operates the dead bolt. Lock backset is 2 3/4". Bronze is restored with a lacquer finish.
