Mortise Locks

Every lock in the 200 series comes complete with a mortise lock either a single key or double key, depending on the configuration of the trim. The lock is the key to every set that we sell. This is the starting point. If the lock isn't able to be restored to working order, the set won't be sold. This mortise lock (a lock that fits inside the door) and is a bit key lock. |
The case of the lock is first opened and visually inspected for broken or missing parts. While our experience with locks continue to grow, we rely on a vast collection of original catalogs with drawings of locks to help us with our inspections. |

| Next, the entire lock is dissembled and cleaned. At this time any excessively worn parts are repaired and any missing springs or parts are replaced. | |

| The lock is reassembled and lubed with a dry lubrication such as silicone or graphite. It is now ready for the cover to be replaced. Each lock is then keyed by hand. In this case, a bit key is fitted to the lock. Every key must work smoothly before the lock is considered finished. | Now that the lock is ready to go we begin working on the escutcheon plates and knobs. The same care goes into the restoration of the trim as does the lock. The knobs almost always have the spindle replaced along with the side knob screws. Any knobs with side knob screws are also supplied with spacer washers. |
