A unique piece of very Deco Egyptian Revival hardware from the early 20th century, cast iron in original paint finish. Photo below right shows maker's signature in bottom right "LVCo" - possibly the Louis Vuitton Co. Famous for his leather luggage and handbags but also sought after for many accessories including men's ties and belts. The unusual flat extension of these hooks leads us to believe this to be either a belt and/or a tie hanger. Beautifully cast detail of an Egyptian sphinx resting in front of a pyramid with columns behind. Measuring 12 1/4" across x 7 5/8" high overall. The hooks are brass and measure 1 1/2" high and extend 2 3/4" ending with small round knobs. Not restored, in cast iron with no break or chips. The original paint shows some age spots and some minor loss, but overall is in remarkably good condition. Colors are quite striking and very indicative of the time.

Wrought iron pie peel, circa mid-19th century,
used to remove pies from bake ovens. Pies were much more commonly made
than cakes. Pie peels were shorter than the normal baker's peels - this
one measures 18" overall - complete with wood handle extension measuring
4 1/8". The wrought iron handle extension/mount is forge welded onto the
peel and extends from the paddle 6 1/2". A close-up bottom row right shows
the extension from the back where is it wrapped around to form the mount for a
wood handle which is riveted in place. The paddle is 7 1/8" x 5 3/4".
In very good condition - the nail attaching the wood handle is a bit loose from
years of use but is still soundly attached.

One set of 4 latches |

Four cast bronze latches, initialized with the letter "L", for
Lorillard, circa 1890. The Lorillard Tobacco Company was the oldest
company that processed tobacco, cigars, and snuff in the U.S. founded in the
1760's in New York City by Pierre Lorillard the tobacco magnate and in business
for the next 200 years. These latches were probably off a large cupboard
style humidor in one of their stores at the end of the 19th century.
Accompanying sign, pictured below, shows the location at 25-27 West 32nd Street,
New York. These latches have a stationary knob (1 1/2" diameter and
extends 1 7/8") permanently secured on the back plates and are operated by the
thumb press to the side of the knob- which retracts the latch. Knob plates
are 5" high x 1 1/2" at widest. The set consists of two left
hand and two right hand latches and have a 7/8"
back set - bronze faces measure 4 1/2" x 7/8". We are offering four knob
plates in cast bronze, four original latches specifically for this type of catch
and the Lorillard sign (5" x 1 1/4") in cast bronze in one lot. These
items are not restored and are in their original patina.
