Quantity:

An 1850's version of the American "1842" antique passage rim latch, one of  the earliest cast iron reversible rim locks, patented in 1842.  This passage latch has no keyed bolt and was intended for interior use only with the night latch at the top for privacy.  Latch is reversible due to the patented latch that is beveled on all sides while the keeper has a large lip.  This latch and keeper allowed the lock to be reversed simply by turning it over and mounting it on whichever side of the door you wished.    An imprinted patent date seal is visible on the latch when mounted as left hand as shown below - showing patent date of Dec. 1842 and an extended patent of Dec. 1856.  Latch is restored and complete with cast iron trim and original brown swirl mineral knobs.   Measuring.2 3/4" high x 3 3/4" deep without the 1" keeper which has the extended patent date imprinted on it of Feb. 24, 1857.   Restored, complete with key, and ready to install - comes with slotted screws.
