An early square cornered Pennsylvania German or Dutch Elbow Latch with the removable screw-off exterior handle shown below, circa 1840. Levers are spoon style and the off-side handle has round rosette shown in mounted position with exterior handle below. Lock body measures 3 3/8" high x 5 1/4" deep x 1 1/8" and offers a slide privacy bolt operated by the extended finger slide seen at the bottom of the latch. This type of lock is not reversible and is right hand only and will fit a door up to 1 1/4" thick. This type of lock was used on both interior and exterior doors as the removable handle was actually used as the "key". When you left home or just wanted privacy, the handle was removed so the latch could not be operated from the outside. Lock is in excellent condition, restored, and complete with original German keeper shown to the right of the lock. Complete with slotted mounting screws.
