A very early wrought iron surface mount latch in the Dutch/German style with fan handles, circa 1750. The fan handles are well executed and measure 2 5/8" x 1 1/2". The off-side handle has round rosette shown with handle below center. This is a special application latch probably used on an Indian Door where a very narrow backset was needed. The backset is 1 1/2". Lock body measures 6" x 3 1/4" x 1". This type of lock is not reversible and is left hand only and will fit a door up to 2 3/4" thick without modification. Lock is in excellent condition and shows an incredible amount of wear on the latch portion where it rested in the keeper, however, it still works smoothly and well. Restored and complete with surface mount keeper pictured below right and offering a slide privacy bolt operated by the iron finger slide located at the bottom of the latch..
