A wrought iron English Carpenter
Lock, manufactured and signed Carpenter & Young Patentees. This places the lock before the
Carpenter & Young split and during the reign of one of the Georges. The
Carpenter patented latch lifts up and down instead of moving in and out, hence
the cutout keeper. The lock body itself measures 6" x 4 1/2" x
3/4"
without the keeper which mounts on the door jamb and measures 1 3/8" wide. This
lock is non-reversible, right hand only. Brass seal (close-up below
right) states Carpenter & Young Patentees with the Rampant Lion & Unicorn. Lock
is restored and complete with period glass knobs which were used on Carpenter
locks occasionally. The interior knob measures 2" in diameter while the
much larger exterior faceted knob measures 2 3/8" diameter and extends 2 1/4"
from the 2 1/4" brass rosette. Swinging cover brass key escutcheon measures 2 1/2" x 1"
- one original key included. Comes complete with mounting screws. Knobs are
currently adjusted to fit a 1 1/2" thick door - we will modify to fit your
specific door thickness if measurement is provided in the Comments Section.
