Quantity:

A transitional surface mount American door latch, patented circa 1846, but with brown swirl mineral knobs.  The open work mechanism is similar to the early Roggins thumb latches, but operates with knobs rather than a thumb latch handle.  The mineral door knobs (2" in diameter) operate the bar which moves up and down and rests in the keeper (shown below the latch) mounted on the jamb.  Off-side is a matching brown swirl mineral knob is held in place by the special large (2 1/4") plain iron rosette pictured below right mounted and below left not mounted with the rest of the latch.  Bar latch measures 2 1/2" high x 4 1/2".  Latch is reversible, restored, and complete and will adjust to any door thickness from 1 1/8" to 1 3/4".  A privacy latch (mounted from the top hole of the staple) is shown in the locked position below left and in unlocked position above.  Photo of exterior knob bottom row below.  Restored and complete - ready to install.

Transitional surface mount American door latch, patented circa 1846.  The open work mechanism is similar to the early Victorian thumb latches, but operates with knobs ( 1 3/4" in diameter) rather than a thumb latch handle.  The cast iron door knob operates the bar which moves up and down and rests in the jamb keeper (shown lower left of latch).  Off-side is a matching cast iron knob and large plain iron rosette pictured in mounted position bottom row below.  Open work side measures 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" high.  Rosette is 2 1/4".  Latch is reversible, restored, and complete.  A privacy latch (mounted from the top hole of the staple) can be flipped 180 degrees to rest against the outer end of the bar and prevent the latch from being opened from outside - shown in the locked for privacy position below right and in the unlocked position above.  Lock is adjustable to any door thickness from 1" minimum up to a maximum of 1 3/4".   Restored and complete - ready to install.  The body of the bar set shown in photo bottom row left below, shows some age pitting and slight casting defect on the left edge.  Part is solid and pitting is cosmetic only.  All original.
