One of the only cast iron American carpenter style locks manufactured by Russell Erwin & Co., circa 1850. These locks each had a brass manufacturer's seal reminiscent of the Carpenter seals. Brass seal shown in close-up below right states Russell Erwin & Co. Manufacturers with an early American eagle. These locks were not reversible and had the carpenter patented mechanism that lifts up and down instead of moving in and out, hence the cutout keeper. Locks measure 3 3/4" x 5" and are left hand only. These locks are all original with original brown swirl mineral knobs and cast iron trim. Keys are new replacements and will vary from lock to lock. Restored and complete, ready to install - comes with slotted mounting screws.
