Very early signed cast iron American carpenter style lock manufactured circa 1840 and signed on the back S & H Co., Phila.  Lock has the Carpenter style latch that operates up and down instead of in and out.  The cutout keeper allowed the latch to release when the knob is turned and the latch lifted.  This lock has a beveled molded edge and is not reversible - right hand only.  Lock measures 4 3/4" high x 4" wide x 1" without the 1 3/8" keeper.  Original brown swirl minerals knobs are 2 1/4" in diameter and trim is cast iron.  Lock is restored and complete with key, ready to install.  Comes with slotted mounting screws.
