Quantity:

Very early horizontal rim passage latch with no keyed bolt, signed J & N (Jacobus & Nimick from Pittsburgh, PA.)  One of  the earliest cast iron reversible rim latches, originally patented in the 1840's this version has a patent date imprinted on the reverse side shown below of Feb. 3, 1871.  The latch is beveled on all sides  with a large lip on the keeper.  This allows the lock to be reversed simply by turning it over and mounting it on whichever edge/hand of the door you wish.  The latch beveled on both sides allows the latch to ride the lipped keeper from either handing.  Lock is restored and complete with cast iron  rosette and original unique white porcelain knobs.  The off-side knob has a long cast iron shank which mounts directly through the door - the rosette can be placed wherever necessary for the door thickness for a great fit on the door.  Latches measure 2 5/8" x 3 3/4" and have a night latch seen at the top which locks the door knobs to allow privacy.  Keeper is original.  Restored, complete, and ready to install.
