Quantity:

A very rare double keyed cast iron Victorian vertical rim lock for an exterior door, manufactured and signed (on right hand lock surface) by the Norwalk Lock Co. with raised patent date on the left hand surface showing Pat'd July 21, 1863.  Lock measures 5" x 3 3/4" and is reversible.   The top key works or retracts the latch from the outside when the knobs are locked while the bottom key throws the dead bolt.  The finger slide showing on the face of the lock in photo below is located directed above the latch bolt and when engaged locks the knobs.  The latch can then be retracted with the top key from the exterior or with the ornate thumb turn shown in close-up below on the interior.   The bottom key operates the deadbolt from either side.  Keeper measures 7/8" width.  Backset is 2 3/4".  The exterior trim is ornate knob, rosette, and double keyway escutcheon with swinging cover on the bottom keyway.  Escutcheon measures 3 1/2" x 1 1/2", rosette is 2" diameter, and the knobs are 2 1/4" diameters with brass banding around the center.  Lock comes with both keys, slotted mounting screws, and is ready to install.   NOTE:   The lock shows a small chip break that can be seen from the back edge as shown in the last photo below - this does not affect the operation or the appearance when mounted.  An early entry rim lock with a very rare double key function, all original.
