Early American made cast iron horizontal rim lock with beveled or molded edges, manufactured by Russell & Erwin Mfg. Co. showing their brass manufacturer's seal, circa 1860. Russell & Erwin was an American manufacturer from New Britain, Conn but their locks were also sold in the English and Australian market. This seal shows the English patent mark. Molded edge cast iron locks are not reversible and this is a left hand only. Lock measures 4" high x 5 3/4" deep without the keeper which is 1 1/8" additional and mounts on the jamb. Original early mineral swirl door knobs have the lock side knob peened permanently on the spindle. Knobs measure 2 1/4" in diameter and are accompanied by cast iron rosette and key escutcheon. Lock has iron bolts. Restored and complete with brass key and ready to install. Comes with slotted mounting screws. Excellent quality American lock from the mid 19th Century.
