Larger size cast iron Victorian horizontal rim lock which mounts on the surface of the door, manufactured and signed R & E Co. (Russell & Erwin Mfg. Co.) on the right hand side only.  On the left hand side is the patent date Mar. 30, 1869.  Lock measures  5" x 3 1/2" high and is reversible handing with brass works.    Keeper is an additional 1 1/16".  Lock has a slide privacy bolt found in the center of the lock body operated by the recessed brass finger slide.  The outer corners feature decorative edging.  Restored with original white porcelain door knobs and complete with cast iron rosette, key escutcheon, and key - ready to install.  Early configuration places the bolt at the top of the lock, privacy bolt in the center, and latch at the bottom with the keyhole directly in line with the knob.  Comes complete with slotted screws.
