A huge open work wrought iron surface mount plate latch, from the first half of the 1700's, called a keyhole latch due to it's shape resembling a keyhole on it's side. This latch is signed by John Bratt, an early lockmaker from Willenhall, England. The last photo below shows the Bratt latch in comparison to a normal sized keyhole latch. This latch measures 12" deep x 5 3/4" high without the keeper which is additional 2" wide on the jamb. Backset to knob center is 6 1/4". Accompanied by early original pair of brass knobs measuring 2" in diameter. Exterior knob and rosette are pictured below the latch. This type of lock is not reversible and is right hand only and is currently set up for a 1 3/8" door but can be modified to fit your specific door thickness - please provide that measurement in the Comments Section when ordering. Latch is in excellent working condition, restored, and complete. Photo below shows the John Bratt stamped signature. Comes with slotted screws.
