Mallory Wheeler & Co. began manufacturing these reversible vertical cast iron Janus-faced rim locks around 1865 and they were only made for a short period. Locks are signed on both sides MW & Co. - New Haven. An early reversible American rim lock, these locks also feature the latch that operates up and down instead of in and out - similar to the familiar English Carpenter locks. The cutout keeper allows the lock to release from the jamb keeper when the knob was turned and the latch lifted - the distinctive keeper offers two cutouts which allows it to be mounted as either right hand or left hand. Locks measure 4 3/8" x 3 3/8" without the 1" keeper. Original swirl mineral knobs are 2 1/4" in diameter and original trim is cast iron. Lock is restored and complete with key, ready to install. Comes with slotted mounting screws.
