Quantity:

A very rare example of a primitive open work wrought iron plate latch, measuring 9 1/2" deep x 5 1/8" high.  The surface mount keeper is 3 1/2" high x 1 1/2" additional and, while old, is not original to the latch and was added at a later date.  This latch is very unusual in that it has a locking mechanism allowing the bar latch to be locked for privacy or security.  The thumb turn mechanism (upper right on the latch shown in close-up bottom row below) swivels down against the top of the bar rendering it inoperable.  Years of use can be seen in the wear on the top of the bar.  Latch is non-reversible - right hand only.  Brass knobs are 2" in diameter with a 2" rosette.  Back set of latch is 5 3/4".  Complete and restored.
