Original Colonial period bar latch with interior lift bar latch and exterior knob through the door to operated the bar. The interior bar was made up of the bar itself, operating cam, staple, and jamb keeper. The exterior side offered a narrow neck iron elongated oval knob and decorative open-work rosette (pictured below the bar). The knob spindle mounted through the door and the cam (the pivot under the bar) and was secured in place by a nut threaded on the end. When the knob was turned the cam would pivot and operate the bar from the exterior side. The staple kept the bar from rotating too much - the jamb keeper is drive-in rat-tail style and self explanatory. The bar measures 19 1/2" overall with the exterior knob 2 3/4" x 7/8" and the escutcheon measuring 5 1/4" x 1 3/4". The cam escutcheon (oval) is 2 1/4" x 1 1/4", the staple is 3 3/8" x 5/8". The small knob on the bar itself is 1" in diameter and extends 1 3/8". A well wrought and complete set - all original. This set is reversible for either hand.
