Victorian cottage thumb latch in decorative cast iron manufactured circa 1875. Handle measures 6 1/2" high x 1 7/8" with a 3 1/2" grip opening. The off-side latch, pictured below, measures 4 3/8" x 2 7/8" high. This latch will fit a door up to 1 3/8" thick and is restored, reversible, and complete, ready to install. Parts include the handle pictured above and the latch set below with back plate which includes an attached staple, the bar, and the jamb keeper. These latches were some of the earliest of the decorative thumb latches and did not have any privacy function. Restored and complete with slotted screws.

Wrought iron thumb latch in the Norfolk style, circa 1830. Handle back plate measures 6 1/2" high x 1 1/4" while the handle itself is 3 1/4". Side view of the flared swivel thumb press shows the deeply curled bar lift that will accommodate a door up to 1 1/4" thick without modification. The accompanying bar set is our own new replacement, pictured below, featuring a 6" bar - surface mount staple and keeper copied from originals of that period. Comes complete with slotted mounting screws.

Victorian Blake style thumb latch in cast iron manufactured last half of the 19th century. This Blake style latch was manufactured by most of the major hardware manufacturers for almost one hundred years. It was patented in 1842 and could still be found in catalogs as late as 1940. Handle measures 6 1/2" high x 1 34" at widest with inside grip opening of 3 1/4". The original off-side bar set offer the 5 1/2" bar, ring, staple, and keeper as shown below. This latch will fit a door up to 1 3/8" thick and is restored, reversible, and complete, ready to install. When mounted, the thumb lift shown below left protrudes through the door and rests under the bar for operation and acts as a grasp to lift the bar from that side. Restored and complete, comes with slotted mounting screws.

Suffolk thumb latch in wrought iron circa 1790, featuring a dominant upper cusp and a smaller lower cusp primarily for mount hole. Nicely executed handle measures approximately 9" high overall x 2" at widest on upper cusp - handle grip is 4 3/4" inside and handle itself is well formed and flat - 7/8" wide. Side view of flat notched thumb press below shows the early straight lift which will accommodate a door up to 1 1/8" thick without further modifications. The accompanying replacement bar set, pictured below right, offers a 7 3/4" bar, 1 3/4" high drive-in staple, and a drive-in keeper. Comes complete with screws.

French Suffolk thumb latch in wrought iron from the 19th Century, featuring a dominant upper cusp and a smaller rounded lower cusp primarily for mount holes. Excellently executed handle measures approximately 8" high overall x 2" at widest on upper cusp - handle grip is 4 1/2" inside. Side view of flat thumb press below far right shows the lift with slight curl for the finger grasp on the offside. Will accommodate a door up to 1 3/8" thick. The accompanying bar set, pictured below left, is our own replacement set with a 5 1/2" bar, 2 1/4" high surface mount staple, and a 2 1/4" high surface mount keeper (shown in close-up below center). Hand grasp has a 3 1/4" grip opening - width from handle in front is 5/8". Side view of thumb below right shows straight lift that will accommodate a door up to 1 1/4" thick. Modified Suffolk early "bean" style thumb latch in wrought iron from the 19th century, featuring rounded cusps with single mount holes - an unusual configuration. Thumb press is flat below the cusp and has a straight pivot type finger grasp. Grasp is long enough to accommodate a door up to 1 1/4" thick without modifications. Handle measures 7" high x 1 1/2" at widest point across the cusps. Hand grasp has a 3 5/8" grip opening and is worked into a wide flat handle measuring 5/8" wide. Accompanied by a our own replacement bar set, pictured below, with a 6 1/2" bar, a 1 1/2" high drive-in staple, and drive-in keeper measuring 2 3/4" overall and extending approximately 1" when mounted. Comes complete with screws.
