An early and rare covered thumb latch with the Blake style handle in cast iron manufactured circa 1850, with a covered bar latch mechanism. These latches were only made for a short period of time and there are not many available today. The unusual covered bar latch incorporates an even more unusual slide barrel privacy bolt. Handle measures 7 1/4" high x 2" across at widest and latch has a 3 5/8" grip opening. Latch will all fit a door up to 1 1/2" thick. This thumb latch is not reversible and is right hand latch only. Covered bar set measures approximately 5 1/2" across x 2 1/2" high. When mounted, the end of the thumb lift protrudes through the door and through the slot while resting under the bar to operate the bar latch and also acts as a grasp to lift the bar from the bar latch side. The privacy slide bolt is mounted below the bar and is operated via the small iron knob. It slides into the hole in the keeper. Restored and complete with slotted screws. Photo below right shows covered bar mechanism from the back.
