Original early thumb latch with a full back plate in brass, circa 1800.  This type of latch was made in America and England at the same time and are hard to distinguish.  Many were used in New England due to the close proximity of the sea as the brass handles weathered the moist atmosphere better.  The brass thumb press is dished with a period straight pivot lift and two iron mount bolts with nuts as shown in side photo below left which will accommodate a door up to 1 1/2" thick..  This type of early latch usually had the bar sets for the interior in wrought iron as iron.  Handle measures 9" high x 2 1/4" at widest point across with the full nicely formed back plate.  The handle is 5 1/8" and is nicely formed with a center bulge which extends 2 1.4" from the back plate.  The accompanying wrought iron bar set, pictured below,  offers a 9 1/8" bar with incised decorative features as shown in close-ups as well as a lift knob 3/4" in diameter extending from the bar almost 1".  Also accompanied by a surface mount staple on member 3 1/8" high x 1", and a surface mount keeper on menber 3 1/8" x 1" with a 1 1/2" extension.  All period and complete - brass handle is in original patina and wrought iron is not recently restored.  We provide slotted screws for mounting.
