Original early brass cast thumb latch with a full back plate and reeded handle, early 1800's.  This type of latch was used in New England often because the brass handle did not pit or rust in the moist coastal air as an iron handle did.  The thumb is dished on a strait pivot lift as shown in side photo below and will accommodate a door up to 2" thick..  This type of early latch usually had the "wear" parts in iron such as the thumb and bar set because iron was harder and lasted longer and with an inward opening door was mounted on the inside protected from the weather.  Handle measures 7 1/2" high x 1 5/8" at widest point across with the full back plate.  The 4" high handle is attached permanently on the back plate which is mounted by the mount bolts that extend through the door and are secured by nuts from the off-side..   The handle is nicely formed and extends 1 1/4" from the back plate.  The accompanying bar set, pictured below,  offers a 7" iron bar mounted on member mount plate, a 2 7/8" x 15/16" surface mount staple, and a 2 5/8" x 5/8" surface mount keeper - all in wrought iron - all original, complete and restored.  We provide slotted screws for mounting.
