Description

Cast iron American carpenter style lock manufactured circa 1840's - 1850's. These locks were the American made equivalent of the English Carpenter lock and an early cast iron American lock. The carpenter patented mechanism lifts up and down instead of moving in and out, hence the cutout keeper. Lock measures 3 3/4" high x 5" deep x 3/4" and is not reversible -right hand only. Keeper is additional 1 1/8" wide. Original early swirl mineral knobs as shown below. In the manner of early knobs, the lock side knob is permanently peened on the spindle with only the off-side knob having a side knob screw to remove. Also comes with early iron key escutcheon and cast iron rosette. Lock is restored, complete with 4 1/4" bronze key and ready to install. Comes with slotted screws.
