Rare mortise locks operated by push buttons, manufactured and patented by Prouty, with a patent date of 1880.  These locks offer black jet pottery door knobs with bronze push buttons connected to an operating lever as shown in the photos below.  When the buttons are pushed, the levers (which go into the mortise lock when mounted) operated the latch mechanism in the lock.  These door knobs are stationary and do not turn - the push buttons are the only movable part of the knobs.  Locks are reversible and are restored and complete.  The jet door knobs measure 2 1/4" diameter, the accompanying cast iron key escutcheons measure 1 5/8" high x 1 1/8" wide.  The rosettes are sheet steel over cast iron.  The door knobs on these locks need to be disassembled to mount and some knowledge of the Prouty lock and its workings is necessary in order to install.  Comes complete with mounting screws.
