Early and very rare signed Carpenter wrought iron draw-back rim lock, circa 1830, a quality and heavy well made lock, restored and in good working condition.  Lock body measures 10" wide  x 6  1/2" high x 1  1/4" without the keeper which is additional 1 1/2" wide x 6  1/2" high  mounted on the door jamb..  Lock is right hand only for inward opening door.  This brass trimmed keeper was hand made in our own shop.  Lock is non-reversible, right hand only.  The brass seal reads "Carpenter & Tildesley Improved Lock".  The draw-back lock can be opened using the narrow neck brass door knob mounted on a brass slide that retracts the bolt into the lock body or the bolt can be retracted by the key from the outside.  The bolt can be retracted and held inside the lock by engaging the brass finger slide lock seen on the the back edge of the lock.   This allows the door to be permanently open for passage.  When locked open the knob slide does not work.  This was a feature used for doors that could be permanently open during the day for business.  To secure the bolt the key must be used inside or out which throws the bolt out an additional length and locks it in a secure position.  When locked from inside the brass finger slide on the back edge works as a locking mechanism locking the bolt in place and blocking key access outside as well as the knob slide inside.   Includes 5 3/4" heavy brass key and a 3  1/2" brass exterior  key escutcheon with a swinging cover, both made in our own shop.  Quality iron works are shown in photo of the back view.  Well made, very large, and heavy - perfect for a retail shop, tavern, business office, museum, or historic residence.  Complete with slotted screws.
